2019 HVAC Tech Trends

Home Icon - HVAC Trends

HVAC has been around since the start of the twentieth century. That’s a long time, but by and large the technology hasn’t changed all that much up until the last 15 years or so. With everything around us becoming more advanced, such as our cell phones, TVs, even cars- it’s no wonder we’ve been making leaps and bounds the last couple years in HVAC technology! We’ve compiled a list of new technology that should be making its way to a home near you this year.

Zoning Systems

Arguing with loved ones over the temperature in the house is a family “pastime” in a lot of households. But this can all be averted with what is called a “zoning system.” This allows you to create different temperature zones in your home that are controlled by individual thermostats.

Smart Thermostats

Digital thermostats have been around for nearly two decades; however, smart thermostats have only been on the market for the last couple years. If you’re not familiar with these smart devices, they automatically adapt as your life and the season changes. You can link them to your phone or tablet, track your energy usage/savings on a mobile device, and they even learn your HVAC and weather patterns. If you’re curious about any of these new systems, Weather Master can put you in contact with one of their comfort specialists to figure out which thermostat would be best for your home, budget and lifestyle.

Heat Pump

The majority of people are familiar with what a furnace is, but have you ever heard of a “heat pump”? Most people are going to say no. Even in air that’s below freezing temperatures, heat energy is still present. When it’s cold outside a heat pump extracts this outside heat and transfers it inside. When it’s warm outside, it reverses directions and acts like an air conditioner, removing heat from your Raleigh, NC area home. One advantage of a heat pump is that it moves heat instead of generating heat, giving you more energy efficiency.

Ice-Powered AirConditioning

HVAC started in 1902 when the first electrical A/C unit was built. Since then it has evolved, but its purpose has remained the same—keep people cool. We’re not going to talk to you about your typical air conditioning units, with compressors etc. No, we’re going to talk about ice-powered A/C units; it sounds like something from the late 1800s but it’s not. These advanced systems produce ice which they use for up to six hours to keep your house cool. This system can save you nearly 30 percent in energy every day! You’re also able to link these systems to your smart phone to monitor power consumption, energy efficiency and even identify your system’s peak hours so you know when the produced ice is being used.

Hot Water Recirculation System

Nobody likes waiting around for the water to warm up in the morning before going to work. Your feet get cold from the tile, and you’re watching as perfectly good, clean water runs down your drain. If only the water was hot from the second you turned it on…well do we have good news for you, that type of technology exists! It’s called a hot water recirculation system. These systems slowly pump hot water through your hot water pipes and back to the water heater through either a dedicated line or through the cold-water line, so you have warm water on tap.
