Spring allergies are all too familiar! We will give you some tips to deal with them that you probably never thought of before:
1. Get a HEPA vacuum cleaner.
The problem with a regular vacuum cleaner is that it can’t capture extremely small particles. Instead, it’s just going to push those particles around on the carpet.
A HEPA vacuum, which stands for “high-efficiency particulate air,” can capture 99.97% of all particles 0.3 microns or larger. For reference, the average human hair is about 100 microns wide, meaning this filter can trap particles over 330 times narrower than a human hair. Wow!! Of course, this is helpful for allergies because many of the particles in your carpet are dust and pollen.
2. Get a humidifier.
We know that summer is coming up, at which point it will get more humid and won’t need a humidifier. But for April, the humidity is still below the recommended level of 60%.
Did you know that in the early seasonal allergy months of March and April, the dry air in Raleigh can contribute to your allergies? The reason for that is a little gross, but here goes. The fluid in your lungs and your nasal passages needs moisture to function. When the air is too dry, the liquid dries up, and your respiratory system can become irritated, making coughing worse. Overly dry air can even irritate your eyes, so if you cough, sneeze, and have itchy, watery eyes, think about how a humidifier could help. (At least for the rest of April!)
3. Invest in a whole-home indoor air purifier.
