Everyone likes a good deal, and here at Weather Master, we have lots of them! But only our annual maintenance program ensures you are up-to-date on your HVAC system tune-ups.
We all know, in theory, why we need maintenance done on our HVAC system. There’s a lot of wear and tear on all of these parts working intricately together. But without knowing exactly what an HVAC tech does when they perform a tune-up, and exactly how many things they are checking into, it’s hard to visualize exactly WHY tune-ups are so important.
In fact, we read an interesting article where someone wrote into their local paper to ask just that:
“I have a question about furnace tune-ups. You say get one every year — is that really necessary? What do the HVAC guys actually do to the furnace to ‘tune’ it up? There’s no spark plugs to replace like a car tune-up, and my understanding is they basically vacuum out dust and inspect it.”
This belief – that an HVAC tech basically looks at your system for a minute, then packs up and leaves – couldn’t be further from the truth!
Since it’s cold outside right now, let’s use the example of a furnace tune-up. First of all, the tech cleans way more than dust! They also clean buildup from the condenser / drain, burner, and heat exchanger. Any of these can get blocked or corroded. The heating coils can get dirty as well. Another thing a technician does on a furnace tune-up is a lot of testing. They test to make sure the safety controls work, they test the flame sensor, they test the fan motor, and they test electrical components and voltage. So, overall, if your furnace is always running efficiently and safely … it’s due to the furnace tune-ups you’re getting! Not a reason to think they’re unnecessary!
