Fall Weather Prep for Your Home

Fall Weather Prep for Your Home

Leaves in a gutter

It’s that time of year, kids are going back to school, the weather is turning colder – before you know it you’ll be looking for that comfy hoodie and your next pumpkin spice latte.  Now is the time to start thinking about what you need to do to get your home ready for the upcoming fall weather. Below we’ve provided a helpful checklist to get your started.

Clean your Gutters.

Not a favorite activity for anyone, but it must be done. Your gutter system keeps water from accumulating near your home that can cause water damage to the foundation, so you want to make sure it is free of debris and water can flow through.

Change Air Filter.

This should be done about every month (check with your HVAC technician if you’re not sure what they recommend or what your system requires).  Adding it to your fall checklist will ensure it gets done and keeps your air fresh and clean.

Schedule Furnace Tune-up.

By planning ahead you can get your furnace tune-up scheduled before the cold weather hits. This will prepare it for the winter ahead, ensuring it’s tuned-up and ready to run safely and efficiently.

Check Carbon Monoxide and Smoke Detectors.

Test and replace the batteries in your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide monitors. This is a safety measure you don’t want to overlook!

Turn off Outdoor Plumbing.

Don’t forget to drain your sprinkler system as well as any outdoor faucets. Make sure to cover outdoor faucets.

Here at Weather Master Heating & Air Conditioning, we want to wish you a fabulous fall! We hope this list helps you get prepared for the cold weather in the coming months.  If you have any heating system or plumbing issues please give us a call or contact us online.  We offer maintenance, repair and replacement services.
